The Coach House.
Bar & Restaurant Brand Identity | Marston's Pubs
Nothing beats a refreshing pint at the end of a long day. You’ll be hard-pushed to find a better selection of beer and cask ales anywhere else. Friendly and full of character, it’s a great place for a big night out or for catching up with friends and family. The Coach House has an exciting range of gins, a new selection of cocktails, and house sodas. No fuss, just quality drinks at great value!

The Mission
Create a visual identity for The Coach House, Swansea, with a modern look and feel that reflect the buildings historic qualities to appeals to both young and older generations.
Client, Role & Challenges
The Client — Marston Pubs Co. Wolvehamptom, England, UK | 2023
Marstons Pubs approached me to create a refreshing visual identity for The Coach House, a welcoming, friendly pub in a thriving street at the heart of Swansea city centre. The aim was to create a warm and welcoming visual identity for a wide demographic, ranging from students and families to the older generation of locals who are loyal to the pub and its history.
Project Goals & Challenges
Creating a brand identity for The Coach House, a pub located in the heart of Swansea, presented the challenge of capturing the establishment’s rich local history. It was essential to appeal to a diverse range of patrons, balancing tradition and modernity to ensure the brand resonated with both long-time locals and newcomers alike.
The Team — Ben Ballantyne, Creative Designer | Alan Beddows , Area Manager, Marston's Pubs
My responsibility was to design an engaging visual identity for The Coach House. This project involved creating a cohesive aesthetic across various elements, including updated menus that showcase our offerings, stylish coasters to protect surfaces, attractive packaging that reflects their brand, and eye-catching loyalty cards to reward our valued customers. Each element was carefully crafted to ensure a unified look and feel that resonates with our target audience and elevates the overall experience at The Coach House.
Modern Heritage
Logo Direction & Target Audience
After exploring multiple directions to take the brand identity, the client chose a logo direction that reflects The Coach House’s history through a hand-drawn sketch of the building, paired with a serif typeface that feels bold and classic yet modern. It aims to represent a warm and relaxing atmosphere for friends and families, especially students, who are most likely to spend their income in themed bars that seek to attract this clientele visually.
Good Vibes, Great Times
User Touchpoints
I further expanded the logo’s visual direction into common user touchpoints of a bar and restaurant. The mockups demonstrate how the logo is applied across common user applications in restaurants, showing a warm and comfortable pub atmosphere providing good vibes and great times.
